4.0 Staffing Station 21

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department is pleased to announce increased staffing levels in the Orcutt area. Starling Monday, February 10, 2020, Fire Station 21 at 335 Union Ave. in Orcutt will increase staffing to four firefighters (4.0 staffing). The station was previously staffed with three firefighters (3.0 staffing). With the addition of the fourth firefighter, the engine company will now consist of a Captain, Engineer, Firefighter/Paramedic and a Firefighter/E MT.

Station 23 Paramedic Service

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department is pleased to announce an increased level of service to the Sisquoc area. On Monday, February 10th, Fire Station 23 at 5003 Depot Ave. increased its service level from basic to advanced life support capabilities. The existing Firefighter/EMT position has been replaced with a Firefighter/Paramedic, providing a higher level of medical care to the Sisquoc area. This transition is part of the Fire Department’s strategic plan to provide advanced life support at all 16 stations across Santa Barbara County.

PR-Pet Emergency Training for Santa Barbara County First Responders

Santa Barbara County, California – January 27, 2020): Starting February 3, nonprofit organization C.A.R.E.4Paws, pet emergency hospital Advanced Veterinary Specialists (AVS) and dog trainer Brian Glen will host a dozen workshops in pet emergency training for the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, covering 16 fire stations from Santa Barbara to Santa Maria. The free workshops, offered through C.A.R.E.4Paws’ recently launched Pet Emergency Training (P.E.T.) for First Responders program, will teach County firefighters how to safely care for and treat pets in emergency situations, covering pet first-aid and animal behavior.

Ellwood Annual Emergency Siren Test

On Tuesday November 12th at approximately 9:30am Santa Barbara County Fire Department in coordination with Beacon West Energy Group, LLC on behalf of CA State Lands Commission will conduct an annual full siren test of the Emergency Warning and Notification System at EOF. The test is expected to last no longer than a minute and will verify that the siren is functioning properly and is audible to citizens within a designated distance from the facility. This is only a test and no action is required.

New Jaws Grant PSA

Santa Barbara County, Calif. – The Santa Barbara County Fire Department was awarded a $70,000.00 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) for the purchase of new extrication equipment that will be used to rescue crash victims. Known as the “jaws of life,” first responders use these rescue tools to break apart a wrecked vehicle with victims trapped inside. The tools help reduce the time it takes to rescue and treat crash victims.
