BarM Ranch Vegetation Management Burn to Occur November 12-14

WHAT: Prescribed burn of approximately 557 acres of Oak Woodland, Chaparral and Sage Scrub

WHEN: Tuesday, November 12, Wednesday, November 13, and Thursday, November 14. Burning will occur on three consecutive days as conditions allow; each day, the burning will begin at approximately 8 a.m. and conclude by 6 p.m. on a permissive burn day.

WHERE: Bar M (also known as Barham) Ranch, approximately four miles southeast of Los Alamos along
Highway 101.

Righetti Ranch Control Burn

Today, November 6th, 2019, a permitted control burn will take place on the Righetti Ranch in the Santa Barbara central coast. This burn is being conducted by the Righetti Ranch for the purposes of range improvement. Santa Barbara County Fire Department will be on scene to ensure the fire does not escape control and will be conducting live fire training for its firefighters.

The cause of the wildland fire on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 in the Gaviota area, was determined to be a result of large bird contacting high-voltage power lines. The bird ignited after contacting the power lines and fell to the ground igniting the vegetation below.

The cause of the wildland fire on Saturday, July 13, 2019 in the 3600 Block of Harris Grade Road, was determined to be a result of power lines. An electrical component failure resulted in an energized power line contacting the ground and igniting the fire.

Vehicle of Interest from Foxen 2 Incident
Santa Barbara County Fire Investigators are continuing their investigation into the fire that occurred on, July 4th, 2019 near the 1500 block of Foxen Canyon Road, east of the City of Santa Maria. Investigators are looking for information regarding two side by side ATVs that are blue in color seen leaving the area where the fire started. The blue ATVs were seen leaving the area at a high rate of speed in an easterly direction at or around the time the fire started. Investigators believe the individuals operating the ATV’s may have information regarding the cause of the fire.
