Driving In Rain PSA
SANTA BARBARA, Ca. – In anticipation of the approaching inclement weather, the Santa Barbara County Fire Department offers the following tips to help keep you and your passengers safe while driving on wet roads:
PSA Winter Fire Safety
It’s that time of year when the temperatures drop to a bitter low. During the winter months, we tend to spend more time at home with our family and loved ones, so what better way to protect them than by making sure your home is protected from any fire hazards.
Hot Work PSA
On Tuesday, October 13th, the Santa Barbara County Fire Department (SBC) responded to a small vegetation fire in the Cuyama Valley, resulting in approximately two acres burned.
Hiking and Dog Hiking Safety PSA
In recent weeks, Santa Barbara has experienced some of its hottest heat waves in nearly 15 years. This Labor Day weekend, temperatures are forecasted to rise to well above average. During times of sunny, warm weather, many like to take the opportunity to get outdoors and go hiking. During our recent heatwave, the Santa Barbara County Fire Department responded to multiple calls for service due to heat-related illness for both humans and their dogs, resulting in several helicopter hoist rescues and the unfortunate death of a dog.

You never know when and where disaster will strike. Be sure to prepare for every member of your household well before an emergency takes place. Planning is the best way to ensure the safety and well-being of all of your loved ones and property.
Fireworks PSA
In years past, we have asked the public to leave the fireworks and pyrotechnic shows to the professionals. We recognize that due to the COVID19 pandemic those shows have been canceled in Santa Barbara County. This might entice people to purchase and put on their own fireworks shows.
Swimming Pool Safety
SANTA BARBARA, Ca. June 5th, 2020 – It only takes a few seconds for a person to drown, and drowning accidents are the leading cause of death for children one to four years of age. Almost 70 percent of all drowning accidents occur in backyard swimming pools; however, people can drown in just a few inches of water. Santa Barbara County fire would like share these swimming pool safety tips.
High Fire Season Preparedness and Response Levels
SANTA BARBARA, Ca. May 13th, 2020 – On May 18, 2020, the Santa Barbara County Fire Department (SBCFD), in conjunction with all other local fire jurisdictions, will declare the beginning of the 2020 High Fire Season period for all areas of Santa Barbara County.
2020 Wildfire Preparedness Week
SANTA BARBARA, Ca. May 4th, 2020 – Monday, May 4, marks the beginning of Wildfire Preparedness Week. The Santa Barbara County Fire Department along with the U.S. Forest Service – Los Padres National Forest is reminding the public that in the event of a wildfire, the effort you place on preparing yourself and your property will greatly enhance your safety and your property’s survivability.
Fire Station Social Distancing
The Santa Barbara County Fire Department would like to remind the public that we are following social distancing guidelines enacted by federal, state and local governments to help curb the spread of the COVID19 vims. We have placed signs on all fire station doors asking the public to utilize contact information provided on those signs to get any questions answered.
