From the Chief

EricPeterson2bHello and welcome to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department website.

As a second generation firefighter, I have had the honor and privilege to work with the Santa Barbara County Fire Department for nearly 30 years. My roots in this community are deep. I count myself incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to reside in such a beautiful place. If you live here also, I’m sure you know what I mean. From Mission Canyon to New Cuyama, my main goal as Fire Chief is to ensure our agency provides effective and professional emergency response to the people we serve.

Our county is incredibly diverse. We have urbanized areas in the south with a large population base, and more rural areas in the north, with longer distances between fire stations. In each of the areas we serve, we strive to make sure our emergency coverage is as efficient and consistent as it can possibly be.

We have an outstanding team at Santa Barbara County Fire. Because of our well-known wildfire threat, we produce the best wildland-urban-interface firefighters anywhere. As an “All-Risk” agency with over 200 uniformed personnel, we have over 60 Paramedics providing Advanced Life Support. We also provide Urban Search and Rescue, Swift Water Rescue, and Hazardous Materials Response.

If you have questions about keeping your home or business safe, please give us a call. If you have an emergency within our response area, call 911. We will respond quickly, and you will be treated with respect and professionalism.

Eric Peterson, Fire Chief
